‘My expression of rebellion against the world‘
I have used nature-based expressions in my past personal experiences and practices, and I am currently dealing with themes such as the two-way cycle of communion and connection between humans and nature, based on the re-creation of real life applied to the sustainability of virtual space. This is mixed with rebellious expressions that emerge from my personal experiences and I find myself constantly returning to aspects of reality that are often hidden or avoided. In my rich artistic practice, painting, costume and ceramics are connected to the computational. The main areas of computationality I am currently researching include machine learning and experimental programming visuals and experimental music.
In my past experiences I have moved from designer to professional artist, from human based to nature based. In between this has resulted in research into the post-human era, thinking about the natural environment, and empathy for the community of life.
My current research project is the development of the Maker's Remains, in which I take real-life waste and derive it through taxonomy and machine learning into landscape drawings and virtual fabrics. In my next research, the development will continue to be based on rubbish in nature. In this project, I propose a personal proposition: MIC (material, inspiration, circle). Currently I focus on plants and herbal dyes, and in my next research I will derive virtual materials/fabrics based on rubbish, which can be applied to virtual space or real life to achieve commonality and connection. And combined with personal experiences, expressed through personal experimental creative means.
Art remains a strong contender for how we share ideas and thoughts. Throughout history, art has survived the waves of information and remains an unpredictable source of imagination. It has the potential to change one's mind, to open up new ideas and to borrow through the accepted ideas that are common in our education system. I have no illusions that art will create a revolution in the traditional sense, but have witnessed the dramatic changes it can produce in individuals. It only takes one new idea to change a person's perspective. The world may not change instantly because of art, but it slowly and tediously spills over into the active part of our brains' lives to tell the story. I don't expect to confront the viewer with a warning or informative attitude, I want my work to be like a ball of cotton, comfortably soft and slowly speaking to you.
